DYKE STREET MUSEUM - WELLSVILLE, NY

EMAIL; JANE PINNEY, OR, EMAIL: MARY RHODES,

 OR, RON TAYLOR, Webmaster

Ron,
This picture was just given to the museum (Nathaniel Dyke Museum - Wellsville) by Marion Jacobs Brook.  She believed it to be Wellsville.   Her parents ran the Al Ha Mar motel on Bolivar Road.

It is not identified.  You can see brick pavement in the foreground - which makes us all believe it might have been taken in the village.  The workmen on the roof appear to be dismantling the place.     Mary Rhodes - Nathaniel Dyke Museum, Wellsville 5/27/09

This photo that is unknown from the Nathaniel Dyke Museum archives is quite a recent Stewart Studios  photo of 1948;

Entitled, "WILDCATS", it will be discussed below the photo for some time to come until identified!

2/20/09 - To date the photo has been publicized for many weeks and many comments have been received without any certain identification.  It was probably taken at the former Boandga Club and quite likely is associated with the oil/gas industry.

Why did Stewart use the name "Wildcats"---was it a term or an organization?

Who are the individuals?

email me here: RON TAYLOR

2/19/2010 - a year later....

Everyone thinks they recognize a face, but, no definite claims to knowing who anyone is or who the group "Wildcats" were.

David Williams says: "The "Wildcats" mystery seems to still be out there. It seems like there must be someone out there in the Bolivar-Wellsville area who is in  their 70's or 80's who would have some input on this one.  If you were 20 years old  in 1948, when the photo was taken, you would be 82 today."  I agree, David, someone has to recognize someone here!

6/23/2010 ---continued discussion; from a member of the Bradley Family comes this reply....

"Regarding the Wildcats photo, you have us stumped.  I did not recognize either the location or any of the people, so I handed it over to my Dad.....  Since he began work for Bradley Producing about 1948 in Wellsville, I thought he might recognize a few of the faces, and perhaps the place.  I am sorry to report that all we can tell you is that (we believe) it was NOT taken at the BOANDGA Club, the Bradley employee rec center in Scio.  I can't offer an alternate theory as to where it was taken, and neither I nor Dad can pick out any faces.  I do think I have seen another earlier picture of another group taken at that location in the 1920's, but my archives are stashed away.  In the event, I don't think the group was called the "Wildcats."  Sorry I can't help you on this one."

7/31/2010 --- from Jessica Garthwait Burns:

"I believe front row 2nd from the left is Jesse Garthwait, my grandfather, and 3rd is Charles Whitney."

......and so the mystery continues.......

The above photo is property of the Thelma Rogers Historical & Genealogical Society.

The only information with the photo is "Rowley, 1903".

The house is unknown as are the people.  Where is/was the house?  When?  Who?

Viewer Response 6/08 to above Rowley Photo:"
"Evening Ron,
Just found this online and wanted to let you know, I think the house is from my family line. My great great grandmother was Bell Rawley Goit. I think the woman in the center front is Bell." Mary Stuck Miller, NC.

If you can identify the Church from this picture,
