A bit of local history was literally "uncovered" recently in the backyard of a resident of Park Lane.  Since the narrow gauge railroad (B.E.&C. RR) ran through this area is was questioned if it could have been a railroad item.

Submitter, Jim Dello, described it as a three-pronged spike approximately 6" long.....

4 Generations?

from Mary Rhodes, Nathaniel Dyke Museum, Wellsville NY,

"We recently received some pictures from David Brown of Corning NY. David's hobby is collecting glass plate negatives. A recent purchase was identified as Wellsville NY. David scanned the negatives and inverted the colors - the result is a beautiful print - but unidentifieds.

This picture looks to me like 4 generations of a family. I wonder if you might post it for viewer comments."

Email: RON TAYLOR with anything you know about this photo.

"I have found a picture dated 1910. It looks like two trains. I can see Erie on the side of one of them. the number 1877 (I think) is on the front of the other train. There are four men in this picture. I don't have any info on this picture. I think that I did have some family that worked the railroad but there is no way of knowing who these men are unless someone recognizes themPam Vincent."

Medalion?

"A gardener found this medal while working the soil and asked us to identify it.  Can anyone help?

It says "Village of Wellsville 1857" Three sections are divided by Dyke Creek and the Genesee River--Top section has an oil rig and building on it; The lower left section says "Industry" with what looks like a turbine or pump case and a box type thing that I cannot identify; The lower right section says "Education" with the motto of the High School "Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve"; Can anyone identify what the medal is in commemoration of?"   Please contact Mary Rhodes

I found a picture of it in the May 15, 1974 WDR.
The caption to the picture:
"VILLAGE SEAL - The Wellsville village board Monday approved this design as the official village decal for village -owned equipment and cars, pending investigation of costs. The seal, is identical to the badge die which will be used by the fire department for this summer's convention. it depicts products of Wellsville's two major industries, an image of the oil fields, and Wellsville's educational institutions."

Hi Ron,
I am attaching a picture of a house, location unknown.  The back of the card reads: "GEM PHOTO POSTCARDS, Geo. E. Mott, Angelica, N.Y."
I  don't think the house is an Angelica house and thought maybe if it was posted on your unknown site someone might be able to identify it.  I know he mostly took pictures in Angelica but sometimes was in Friendship and St.. Marys, Pa.
Thanks,
Bob

I think the unknown house picture is an Allegany County house.  To me, it looks just like the house owned by Steve and Mickey Cummins on East Water St., Friendship.
Carolyn Feldbauer

Ron,
This picture was just given to the museum (Nathaniel Dyke Museum - Wellsville) by Marion Jacobs Brook.  She believed it to be Wellsville.   Her parents ran the Al Ha Mar motel on Bolivar Road.

It is not identified.  You can see brick pavement in the foreground - which makes us all believe it might have been taken in the village.  The workmen on the roof appear to be dismantling the place.     Mary Rhodes - Nathaniel Dyke Museum, Wellsville 5/27/09

I would like some help identifying the individuals in this photograph.
The woman is strongly believed to be Angeline Sweet Williams, born 1825, died unknown, wife of Philander Williams, 1818-1894. Philander and Angeline Williams lived in New Hudson.

Philander and Angeline's daughter Adeline married Henry Fuller. Henry and Adeline had sons Charlie and Dorr, and daughters Maude and May, also
known as Tota. May Fuller married Walter Hillman of the
Freedom/Farmersville area, and later Caneadea.

(I have several photos
of the Fuller and Hillman families. If anyone is interested, please
email me).

Any help identifying these gentlemen will be greatly appreciated.

If you can help identify these outstanding citizens, please Email: -
Marty Hillman

This 1912 photograph was originally owned by Charles Richard Gardner and now by his granddaughter, Heather Corson who shared it with us.  The photo was also shared by Mr. Gardner at one time for a Pennysaver viewing.

From a clipping at the Rogers Historical Society we find the names are as follows: Top Row-Gene Hamilton, Paul Hanks, Richard Gardner; Row 3-Walter Arnold, Carl Bergeson, Frank Arnold, Marion Belisle, Anna Hamilton, Walter Boyd, Charles Gardner, Frank Fowler; Row 2-A. Riggs, B. Hazzard, Ed Mack, W. Crandall, Chat Fanton, Gillett; Front Row-A. Johnson, Ham Meissner, Albert Bergen, Albert Weitrick.  It is belief of our Historian Friend, Jane Pinney, that the Concert Band soon after became the Christian Temple Concert Band.  In 1913 a Wellsville Newspaper account names the “Temple Concert Band” as performing.
