Homer G. Norton, Rushford Town Historian

 

Rushford – Homer G. Norton of 9004 Main Street died Tuesday (April 5, 2005) at the Waters of Houghton Nursing Home.

Born Dec. 10, 1910 in Rochester, he was a son of John and Jennie Galusha Norton.

Mr. Norton graduated from high school in 1928, was a graduate of Geneseo Normal School and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was an English teacher at Rushford Central School.  At the time of his death, he was Rushford town historian.

Mr. Norton was a lifelong piano player.

Surviving are a brother, Alan Norton of Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Glenwood Norton and Remington Norton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday (April 9, 2005) at 11 am in the Rushford United Methodist Church with Bradley Chesebro, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev Robert Childs and Arthur McElheny.  Burial will be in Chili Rural Cemetery #3.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Rushford Free Library.

Arrangements are under direction of the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, Fillmore.
