Archibald R. Norris

 

Feb 25, 1902

 

A resident of this town since 1874, Archibald R. Norris died at his home two miles east of the village.  He was the ninth child in a family of thirteen children, and was born in Broadalbin, Fulton, Co. Mar 21, 1826.  He learned the carpenters trade but spent most of his life on public works, having had charge of some important contracts for the state.  He moved to Portageville in 1868 and for several years had charge of the work on the Genesee Valley Canal, known as “The Slide”, a few miles below the village.

 

In 1874, he moved to Canaseraga and part of the time he worked at his trade until 1884, when he moved to the farm east of the village.  He was married to Helen M. Shipman, Mar 10 1852.  He is survived by his wife and four children, Eugene F. of Canaseraga, Miss Lucy of Attica, Fred of Castile and Frank of Attica.  Of his fathers family, only four are left, three brothers and one sister.  Burial Canaseraga Cemetery
