Death of Henry Miller (February 1900)

Henry Miller had always been a resident of Canaseraga.  Before he was twenty one years of age he was elected Collector of Taxes for the Town of Burns.  He held the office continuously, except for an intermission of two years, until the day of his death.  The full time he spent in office was about fifty years.  This is a remarkable record and shows that he was qualified for the position.  It is said of him he often preferred to pay the taxes of the poor himself rather than to let the law take its course.  Beside the Office of Collector, he was at one time Constable and Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Gillies.  He was a member of Canaseraga Lodge No. 781 F& AM, having been a Mason since 1863.

Of his immediate family, there survive him his widow, Rachel Scott Miller, one daughter, Jeanette, two sons, L. Lloyd Miller, Supervisor of the Town of Burns, and Assistant Journal Clerk of the Assembly of the State of NY, and Brad. B. Miller, all of Canaseraga.  The only brother surviving him is Brad B. Miller of Alma, NY.  Services at Trinity Church, Rev. David C. Huntington Officiating.  Burial Canaseraga Cemetery.
