WILLIAM L. CHILDS
William L. Childs died at 12:20 Monday afternoon, March 15, 1948 at his home in this village following several weeks' illness.
Mr. Childs was born September 3, 1882 in the Town of Burns, a son of Alfred and Elnora Lockwood Childs, but has resided in Andover
for the past 44 years. For a number of years he operated a farm on Greenwood Hill and for the past several years has been an employee of the Worthington Pump and Machinery
Corp in Wellsville.
He was married May 15, 1902 to Clara B. Warfield of Andover whose death occurred February 28, 1942.
He is survived by two sons, Paul W. Childs and Carl A. Childs, both of Andover, a brother, Edwin Childs and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude
Burdick, both of Canisteo, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held this Thursday afternoon at the James B. Mulholland Funeral Home inAndover at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Albert N. Rogers officiating,
with interment in Hillside Cemetery.

Prominent Andover Woman Passes From Life
Mrs. William Childs Succumbs in the Jones Memorial Hospital Last Saturday Afternoon.
Andover people were shocked and deeply grieved last Saturday afternoon when the sad news of the passing of Mrs. Clara Childs was
learned.
While Mrs. Childs had not been in usual health for some time, the seriousness of her condition was not generally known until last week, when she
was taken to the home of her son, Carl Childs and Friday morning removed to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, where she passed from life at 4:30 Saturday
afternoon, Feb 28, 1942.
Clara B. Childs was born in Andover, March 4, 1883, daughter of Josiah J. and Mary Wright Warfield and has lived her entire life
here. May 15, 1902 she was united in marriage with William L. Childs and for some years they lived on the home farm on Greenwood Hill, later moving to Andover village where
Mrs. Childs started a bakery business. The business flourished under the capable management and genial personalities of Mr. and Mrs. Childs, who soon branched out into the
restaurant business in connection with the bakery.
Mrs. Childs was a very kindhearted woman, affectionately known to many, both old and young as "Ma" Childs, by whom she will be greatly missed and
who join with the News in expressing their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
She was s member of the Andover Presbyterian church, and active member of the King's Daughters and a Past Noble Grand and loyal member of Andover
Rebekah Lodge No. 803.
Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Paul Childs and Carl Childs and two granddaughters Lila and Barbara Childs, all of
Andover. Also an aunt, Mrs. Benj. Burdick of Greenwood.
Farewell services were held at the home of her son Carl Childs on Maple avenue, Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. J. Gordon McKenzie
pastor of the Canisteo Presbyterian church officiating, with interment in Hillside cemetery.
The high esteem in which Mrs. Childs was held by friends was evidenced by the profusion of beautiful flowers sent in tribute. Local business
places closed during the funeral hour.
Among those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mrs. and Mrs. E. M. Childs, Mrs. L. D. Burdick, Mr. and Mrs Donald Burdick, Dale
Burdick and Frank Hurd of Canisteo, Mrs. Lena Childs, Claude Lockwood and Lyman Lockwood of Hornell; Mrs. Mina Gordon, Mrs. Clayton Green, Mrs. Raymond Neu, and Mr. and Mrs.
William Gordon of Petrolia, NY, Mrs. James Abernathy of Bradford PA and Pvt Ernest Clark of Fort McClelan Al.
